RALEIGH — Torment turned to tragedy for a Raleigh family more than six months after 16-year-old Vebecca Jones went missing in September 1998.

Jones was last seen alive by her family, but in February 1999, authorities made a startling discovery. A man looking for cans in a pile of trash found a lifeless body wrapped in plastic.

"Now we know who the victim is, and we need to trace her last known activities before she died," says Major Danny Bellamy with the Wake County Sheriff's Department.

Investigators said pieces of a plastic grocery bag may help them discover just what happened the night Jones was killed.

"The bag was associated the body, we think it may have come to the crime scene with the body," Bellamy said. "We're trying to find out what store used this type of bag."

Anyone with information about the death of Jones is asked to call the NC Wanted hotline at 1-866-439-2683.
