FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Authorities in Fayetteville remain desperate for clues after two young brothers disappeared 50 years ago.

According to police, Allen and Terry Westerfield vanished after being dropped off at Fayetteville's popular Broadway Theater in 1964.

John McDonald, the boy's uncle, described the children as fun loving youngsters growing up in the early 60's.

"They loved to ride bikes. They loved to go to the movies," he said.

According to police reports, the boys' stepfather dropped them off at the theater, but investigators aren't sure they ever made it inside.

"Some of the people who were working at the theater at the time insisted they never showed up because the mother was always real strict about when the movie is over don't go outside, I'll step inside and get you," he said.

Heavy rain from Hurricane Dora hindered the search for the children and increased the anxiety for the family.

"I just wish that we could bring a closure some way some how, because I firmly believe that there's somebody out there that knows something about these children. I just wish that they would come forward," McDonald said.

Anyone with information about McCarthy's death is asked to call the toll free hotline at 1-866-439-2693.
