NC turns on the Christmas season at annual tree lighting

Posted December 8, 2011

— The state of North Carolina's annual Christmas tree was lit Thursday evening at outside of the old Capitol building in downtown Raleigh.

Gov. Beverly Perdue and husband Bob Eaves — along with Santa Claus — participated in the annual lightning on the south side of the Capitol grounds. The first couple hung wreaths at the Capitol to begin the lighting ceremony, and the governor and Santa Claus read to children after the lighting.

The evening began around 5 p.m. with performances by the Raleigh Boy Choir and Raleigh Concert Band. A holiday festival with other music, children's activities and food also were also planned at the 1840 Capitol building.
