North Carolina Theatre brings a vivacious cast and creative team to the stage for their season opener, the American musical sensation: A Chorus Line running October 14-19th at Raleigh Memorial Auditorium. Earlier this year, the company announced Mitzi Hamilton, original London cast member and inspiration for the character “Val” will direct the production and they recently announced the talented cast behind the show, which blends Broadway pedigree with strong local talent.
This Broadway classic has doubtlessly endured and rung true to audiences for so many years because of the authenticity and novelty of its story. In 1975, director and choreographer Michael Bennett did something that would revolutionize musical theatre; he sat down in a warehouse with Broadway chorus dancers and gave them the spotlight. A Chorus Line reenacts these clandestine interviews in the form of an audition and gives the audience a rare look at the individual facets that make up the seamless entity of a Broadway chorus line and the tasking audition and rehearsal process that goes into it.
NCT brings in a diverse cast with versatile artistic backgrounds to the stage. Jessica Lee Goldyn, who appeared in the 2006 Broadway revival of the show, will play the role of “Cassie” and Nathaniel Shaw, a director, actor, choreographer, and Artistic Director, whose currently serving as Asst. Choreagrapher on Broadway’s TONY-award winning Once, will play the role of “Zach.”
North Carolina native, Ashley Adamek will reprise the role of “Kristine,” which she sang in NCT’s last production of A Chorus Line in 2002. She most recently appeared in Broadway’s Spiderman: Turn off the Dark. Several of North Carolina Theatre Conservatory’s talented young artists and alumni including Raleigh natives Kinsland Howell and Kelsey Walston will appear alongside NC Theatre Conservatory’s Director of Dance and Broadway veteran, Tito Hernandez, who will play the role of “Larry.”
A Chorus Line will run from October 14-19, 2014 at Raleigh Memorial Auditorium. Tickets can be purchased online, over the phone, or at the NC Theatre box office. For up-to-date behind the scenes coverage, follow NC Theatre on Facebook and Twitter.
