RALEIGH, N.C. — The Love Language and Orquesta GarDel are among the bands playing this year's North Carolina State Fair.
The Dorton Arena performances are being rebranded as the "Homegrown North Carolina Concert Series." It is a departure from years past, when Dorton Arena hosted headlining concerts featuring such national acts as Vanilla Ice, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and "American Idol" winner Scotty McCreery.

Here's this year's lineup at Dorton Arena:

  • Thursday, Oct. 15: Firehouse with The Fifth (glam metal and hard rock)
  • Friday, Oct. 16: The Great I Am featuring Kaimy Masse, Hank Murphy and the Summit Church Choir (spiritual rock, rap and hip-hop)
  • Saturday, Oct. 17: Jason Michael Carroll with Luke Combs and Stephanie Quayle (country)
  • Sunday, Oct. 18: Orquesta Gardel (salsa band from Durham)
  • Monday, Oct. 19: Nuv Yung presents Bollywood Night
  • Tuesday, Oct/ 20: Black Sheep with Shadina (hip-hop, R&B)
  • Wednesday, Oct. 21: Band of Oz and The Embers (beach music)
  • Thursday, Oct. 22: Night of Praise featuring Wake Chapel Choir, Instrument of Praise Gospel Concert Chorale and Watts Chapel Gospel Choir
  • Friday, Oct. 23: The Love Language (indie)
  • Saturday, Oct. 24: Charlie Daniels Band with Kasey Tyndall (country)
  • Sunday, Oct. 25: Nantucket with Sidewinder (rock)

All concerts are free, but floor seating (closest to the stage) will require tickets. Starting at 9 a.m. on the day of the show, you can get up to six tickets at Dorton Arena's box office. Tickets will be given out only for that day's show.

For all concerts, doors open 6:15 p.m., and shows will start at 7:30 p.m.

This won't the only music at Dorton Arena during the fair. Organizers announced earlier this year that the State Fair Folk Festival is moving from a large tent behind the Kerr Scott Building to perform free shows at Dorton.

There will also be live music outside each day at the Waterfall Stage and Heritage Circle.
