NC National Guard officer killed in Afghanistan
A North Carolina National Guard officer from Raeford was killed in Afghanistan when her unit was attacked with multiple improvised explosive devices, the Defense Department said Sunday.

1st Lt. Ashley I. White, 24, was assigned to the National Guard's 230th Brigade Support Battalion, 30th Heavy Brigade Combat Team, Company C, based out of Goldsboro. She and two Washington-based soldiers were killed in Afghanistan's Kandahar province on Saturday.
White volunteered for a unique mission with the Special Forces in Afghanistan, interacting with women and children as part of a cultural team.
Funeral services will be held Sunday and Monday in Ohio, where White is originally from and her family still resides.
Visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 30, from noon until 6 p.m. at Marlington High School, 10450 Moulin Avenue in Alliance, Ohio.
White's funeral will be held Monday, Oct. 31, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2643 Waterloo Road in Mogadore, Ohio.
