NC Museum of Art kicks off new exhibit with all night party
The North Carolina Museum of Art is kicking off its newest exhibition, You Are Here, with a silent disco followed by an all night party this weekend.
Posted — UpdatedThe exhibition also marks the debut of the museum's newest acquisition - Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama's Light of Life, which is a mirrored 7-foot hexagonal box with three portholes at varying heights to allow viewers a look inside an enclosed “infinity room." The inside of the box is lined with mirrors and filled with LED lights that are programed to change patterns and colors in a two-minute light show. The result is a kaleidoscopic of color and light, creating an illusion of infinite space.
The night is broken into two-hour programming blocks with the first featuring stand-up comedy and karaoke. Other blocks include digital and analog gaming, tarot and aura readings, mediation and yoga and dance and drums.
In addition to the programs, visitors also get access to the exhibit. There will be a cash bash and complimentary fry bar until 2 a.m. To help wake you up, there will be complimentary Joe Van Gogh Coffee, Sunshine energy drinks and Rise doughnuts from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Tickets are sold in two-hour blocks and, while you can stay after your two-hour time, you can't arrive early. Admission is $20 per person.
