RALEIGH, N.C. — The North Carolina Museum of Art on Tuesday received a $1.9 million grant from the State Employees’ Credit Union Foundation for art education research.

The grant will establish a high-tech education center that will serve as a portal for accessing the museum’s collection, exhibitions and programs.

Construction on the center, which will include an auditorium, classrooms and distance-learning center, is expected to begin in spring.

"We are immensely grateful for the SECU Foundation support and for SECU members' transformative investment in the NCMA's educational outreach
programs," museum Director Larry Wheeler said in a statement. "This grant will ensure that students
across North Carolina have the opportunity to participate in our award-winning education programs and to experience our outstanding collection."
