NC growers expecting strong 'second wave' of strawberry season
As temperatures warm, North Carolina agriculture officials say strawberry lovers should get ready for a "second wave" of the strawberry season.

Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler says the season, which normally peaks around Mother's Day, has been "unusual."
“Thanks to a warm February, many growers were picking at least two weeks ahead of schedule. Then, the state had freezing temperatures in March, which put production on hold," he said in a statement. "Now that we are past the last freeze, more strawberries are about ready for picking."
The second wave of strawberries will keep the crop strong through the end of May, Troxler said.
The North Carolina Strawberry Association will hold three events in the coming weeks to celebrate the season, including a May 4 celebration at the State Farmers Market in Raleigh.
North Carolina is the fourth-largest producer of strawberries in the nation, and the crop generated more than $23 million in farm income in 2015.
