Play at the pump? Enter lottery without entering the store

Play at the Pump

— At nearly every gas station in North Carolina, you can pay at the pump. Thanks to the N.C. Education Lottery, motorists can now play at the pump as well.

A new service offered by the education lottery will allow players to enter Powerball, Mega Millions or Carolina Cash 5 while pumping gas.

Customers swipe a debit card at the pump to get numbers for the next drawing in one of the jackpot games. They get a receipt with their lucky numbers and also can get a text of their lucky numbers and a text if they win. Credit cards are not accepted.

Wins up to $599 are credited to the player's debit card. Players pay a $1 transaction fee to the company providing the service to cover the cost.

It DOES ask you if you want to play whether you use a credit or debit card. We all knew they'd let the corporations in on the profits sooner or later...$2 in gas a $500 in lottery tickets sure! EBT, if you can buy gas with it you can buy a lottery ticket.

This is already against the law, but as long as it's big business it's ok right wingnuts?

Now instead of waiting in line for these people to play the lottery (which I have to do just about every time I go in) I now have to wait while their at the pump also!

I wonder if the profit from the ticket sale goes to the store or to the gas company. My store tells me that if I swipe and go at the pump he receives nothing from the sale. Stores sell gas mostly as a drawing card to get people to patronize them hoping that they, when they come in to pay, will pick up an item they might see inside. The greedy gas companies have all but eliminated this and store owners are now selling gas almost strictly for the gas companies. Take an extra moment and swipe your card inside. It will be much appreciated.

It's like I'm playing 20 questions with some of these pumps. Credit or Debit? Would you like to purchase a car wash? Play Loto? Receipt? I just want to pay, pump and go.

Have you tried using your card as a credit card instead of debit?

When I swipe to buy gas it annoys me when the pump asks me if I want to play. I wish there was a way to permanently stop it for my card. No, I don't want to play. Not now. Not ever.
