NC community colleges chief leaving for Virginia job
Scott Ralls, who has led the 58-campus North Carolina Community College System for seven years, is leaving the state to take the helm of a six-campus community college in Virginia.

Ralls was named Thursday as president of Northern Virginia Community College, which serves close to 80,000 students a year.
“I’ve known Scott Ralls for a long time. His passion, knowledge and leadership are among the reasons the North Carolina Community College System is so highly regarded,” Virginia Community College System Chancellor Glenn DuBois said in a statement.
“I am extremely excited and feel greatly privileged to be joining the team at Northern Virginia Community College,” Ralls said in a statement. “NOVA is a national leader in its commitment to student success and plays an integral role in the workforce development it provides to support the region’s vibrant economy. I look forward to working with the NOVA team and community to help build on that great foundation.”
Ralls served as president of Craven Community College in New Bern and Havelock from 2002 to 2008 and as vice president for economic and workforce development for the North Carolina Community College System from 1999 to 2000.
He takes over at Northern Virginia in September, succeeding Robert Templin, who retired in February.
