— A North Carolina-based soldier accused of killing his girlfriend in Ohio was killed by authorities in Columbus early Friday, according to WBNS-TV in Ohio.

Authorities shot Juvon Williams, 18, after a manhunt. He was accused of shooting and killing his girlfriend, Leigh Belyn, 18, of Columbus, the TV station reported. Her body was found in the trunk of a car in Westerville, Ohio.

Williams, who was originally from Columbus, was on leave after finishing basic training and was scheduled to deploy to Afghanistan on Friday.

His twin brother was taken into custody for questioning. No other information was available.

I don't know why some people are so quick to jump to judgment. As I said earlier, a lot of the comments made here are not only irreverent but also mean spirited.

First let me say that as humans we tend to miss interpret what we reed so let me begin by saying that I write this in the most humble and calm tone possible.
The Soldier in question was not infantry and infantry men train in Ft Benning, GA. He also was not deploying to Afghanistan today but he was in the near future. He also was not. Fresh out of basic or AIT and was a nice kid overall.
Yes what happened is tragic and we all will speculate on reasons why or how this could have happened. Fact of the matter is that no matter how much we disagree with what has happened we will never know the facts, not that there is an excuse. There are two families grieving over their lost loved ones. Let's respect their grieving and lost and not slander the dead.
    Respectfully
    Nelson

    "
That being said, he does not represent soldiers, obviously a sick individual. I dont count him among my brothers and sisters in uniform.

Read my lips, ONCE AGAIN, "Actually what they are is plain old human beings, subject to all the foibles and short comings that everyone else is. The young man murdered his girlfriend. Had he been a doctor, a mechanic or anything else the girlfriend would be just as dead. His being a soldier had nothing to do, positively or negatively, with the girl’s death."

    CAPICHE?????

    Johnsod-

He is Infantry, I believe, they have a combined Basic and AIT all in one. So, likely he would be deploying to Afghanistan right out of basic if the unit that he was assigned to was deploying immediately.

Furthermore, his training and unit were most likely Ft. Bragg, where most INF does their training.

That being said, he does not represent soldiers, obviously a sick individual. I dont count him among my brothers and sisters in uniform.

There are a lot of details missing from this story. How is he a NC based Soldier? Is he in the guard or active duty. Also a Soldier does not deploy to Afghanistan after attending basic training. He still has to go through Advanced Individual Training (AIT). Another attempt by the news to paint a Soldier in a negative way without all the facts.

sunshine1040 - "Sorry to offend you but calling this person a soldier offends me. Our soldiers are men and women that can control themselves and act as adults"

    I agree.

Putting on a uniform and taking an oath isn't all that makes one a soldier. The very mind-set of a soldier is to protect and defend, not to maliciously stalk and kill.

"Williams, who was originally from Columbus, was on leave after finishing basic training and was scheduled to deploy to Afghanistan on Friday."

Is this really correct? They're taking kids fresh out of basic and sending them to Afghanistan? If true I hope they're not placing kids in combat without additional training...

    What a shame!

    Praying for both families.

  • chaplaineaddy Aug 12, 2011

Agreed fayncmike he was still a recruit in training! He would have been better to apply all of that anger to his Advanced Infantry Training.

  • braddavis Aug 12, 2011

Just wondering what the relevence of him being a soldier is. It has absolutely nothing to do with the story.
