— The sound that rocked the night along the Outer Banks Tuesday was likely a sonic boom from Navy aircraft training over Dare County, a Coast Guard spokesman said.

Residents, visitors and media along the Dare County coast reported hearing a loud boom just before 9 p.m. Some said it literally shook windows.

The Coast Guard checked with offshore vessels in the area and none reported any crash or explosions.

The lights described could be "balls" of gas escaping from the ocean--similar to those lights that used to be seen at the old Maco Light, or the Brown Mountain Lights.

Could be, but would that explain the lights that have been filmed above the water, lights that then suddenly disappear?

Those "booms" have been heard out there for quite a while, with lights seen out over the ocean off Carolina Beach that then just disappear. There are videos of the lights on Youtube.
Is it all military? The military use to say they aren't doing anything out there. Now, supposedly, the are?
    Dunno about this excuses either...

Could have been "Sennaca's Guns"--very strong release of gases from the ocean floor-been heard down around Wilmington, Kure Beach, etc..

We would be walking across deserts and swimming rivers to get out of this country. A big thanks to our military.
