Students and parents will have a chance to meet with representatives from 187 colleges and universities Tuesday when the National College Fair stops at the Raleigh Convention Center.

Attendees will have a chance to speak with college reps about application, admissions and financial aid opportunities. This is the fifth year the event has been held in Raleigh.

It's free and open to the public, but students are urged to register before the fair to make the most of their time there and ensure colleges can follow up.

The fair's website encourages students to pick up a map as soon as they get to the fair to find the colleges that best fit their plans. Counselors will be available to help determine which colleges might be right for each student. The fair is organized by the National Association for College Admission Counseling.

The fair also features a slate of workshops that cover topics such as paying for college; transferring to a four-year college; essay writing; how to choose a major; a guide to applying to highly selective colleges and universities; and college bound athletes.

It's 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, at the convention center, 500 S. Salisbury St. For details and to register, click here.
