— A Bailey Elementary School student has been suspended after authorities found a .22-caliber handgun at the school Monday, officials said Tuesday.

Another Bailey Elementary student tipped off a teacher about the gun. Administrators searched a girl's backpack and found the unloaded gun.

Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools officials said there was no evidence that the girl made any threats to others at school.

Classes weren't disrupted by the incident, and school officials notified parents about it through automated phone messages.

@cn38of50, they might have been locked up. Just sayin'. I guess then they should be charged for not locking em up good enough huh? What if she stole it? Should we charge someone for not stopping a thief? Sometimes it's the fault of the one that did it and no one else is to blame. Novel idea, I know

Whoever left that gun unsecured needs to be charged. I don't care how many weapons you have, but unless you are using them...LOCK 'EM UP!!!
