Suspect, officer in Enfield post office standoff identified

According to Davis, a police shot Willie E. Bishop, 62, of 213 N. Dennis Street, who also shot himself. It is unclear which wound was the cause of death.

Nash County deputies assisted Halifax County deputies and Enfield police in a police standoff at the Enfield post office.

The officer who fired the shot at Bishop was identified Tuesday as capt. Drahar Bozard Jr. of the Enfield Police Department.

The call came in around 7 p.m. A man attempted to rob an elderly woman as she checked the mail. Police responded, and shots were fired at a police car.

Davis said the suspect shot at the woman at least three times, but she was not hit. The woman sustained minor injuries when she fell while attempting to escape.
