N.C. soldier killed in Iraq

— An Army soldier from Pitt County died in Mosul, Iraq, on Wednesday, military officials announced.

Spc. Joel A. Taylor, 20, of Pinetown, was wounded on Tuesday when an improvised-explosive device hit his vehicle.

Two other soldiers were also killed: Sgt. Alejandro A. Dominguez, 24, of San Diego, Calif., and Pfc. James M. Yohn, 25, of Highspire, Penn.

Taylor, Dominguez and Yohn were assigned to the 1st Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, based in Fort Hood, Texas.

    Joel was a great kid from a great family. He will be missed in so many ways.

    Pinetown's in Beaufort County, not Pitt County. That's my family's hometown. I feel really awful for this soldier's family. It's tragic when anyone dies, but he was so young, too. I can't even imagine what that must be like.
