Raleigh, N.C. — As federal officials offer their own responses to the Newtown, Conn., school shooting, the most vocal gun rights group in Raleigh has a suggestion as to what the state's response to the massacre should be.
"When the General Assembly convenes on January 9, 2013, Grass Roots North Carolina will immediately push for legislation enabling teachers and other concealed handgun permit-holders to protect students from violent predators on the state’s campuses," Grass Roots North Carolina wrote in a news release Tuesday.
GRNC President Paul Valone made the case for the change in an opinion piece published in The Charlotte Observer.
Lawmakers will return to Raleigh for a one-day organization session on Jan. 9 and then return to work later that month.
"It's too early to talk about these things," said Sen. Tom Apodaca, R-Henderson, who as rules chairman controls the flow of legislation through the Senate. He said lawmakers would discuss gun policy proposals next year.

How many were there before then?
A young boy was standing in a field in the middle of Iowa banging two pots together as hard as he could. A man stopped and asked him what he was going. The boy stopped, looked at man and said "I'm keeping the wild elephants away." The man looked back at the boy with amusement and said, "But, there are no wild elephants in Iowa", to which the boy replied "Works pretty well, doesn't it!"

Go ahead, hand-wringers and name-callers. Keep your heads in the sand, pray that your lights stay on, your grocery store keeps receiving food, and wack jobs stay out of your kids schools.
Paranoia? Sure, that's it. Hurricanes Andrew and Katrina were little summer squalls and the media just blew it all out of proportion. You choose to trust your safety to others - go for it... those with their heads stuck in the sand may find other parts of their bodies stuck up in the air vulnerable to, um, trouble.

And this is the state that plans to introduce legislation to ban OTC cold medicine.
I worry more about the more than 30 shootings in the area in less than a month. Does anbody give a ****?
Sometimes I have to ask myself if this place is for real...
