N.C. educators protest cuts in school funding

Posted May 16, 2009

— The North Carolina Association of Educators sponsored a rally on Saturday to protest pay cuts and potential threats to public school funding.

About 800 people attended the rally in the front courtyard of the NCAE Center in downtown Raleigh. A motorcade followed.

NCAE President Sheri Strickland says the organization wants to let elected leaders know that tough economic times will turn into even tougher economic times if the state budget is balanced with cuts to teacher salaries and school funding.

Teachers need to get back in class. Maybe read the paper or watch the news. These are serious economic times. Cutting the school year by 5 or 10 days in the long run will have no effect. It just might change their pay a little. Millions of Americans are out of work-- I suggest they get their head out of the sand. Everyone always seems to think their job is more important and more critical than anyone else. Teachers-- live with it!
