Mustaches, Kiss and superheroes lead our weekend best bets

Lots of live music happening this weekend and the first Oak City Beard and Mustache Competition.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Start off the weekend with some comedy for a great cause. Napper Tandy's on Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh on Friday will be hosting a charity comedy show to help 8-year-old Joeson Bramlett, who suffers from Metachromatic Leukodystrophy. The show is free but donations are being accepted. The show starts at 7 p.m. 
Head to Durham on Saturday to help raise money for Habitat for Humanity of Durham. The Habitat Bull Moon Ride and Run, a 12-mile bike ride and simultaneous 5K run, starts at 8:15 p.m. People usually show up dressed in lights, glow sticks and more. There’s great food and cold beer at the end of race party! 
The Triangle Beard and Mustache Club will hold the first Oak City Beard and Mustache Competition on Saturday at Kings Barcade in downtown Raleigh. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the first event starts at 8 p.m. It is $10 to get in with proceeds going to the Raleigh Rescue Mission. 
Superheroes will be hitting PNC Arena this weekend. Marvels Universe Live features a new live action original story. Tickets to this family-friendly show start at $40. 
The American Dance Festival continues with the Paul Taylor Dance Company this weekend at the Durham Performing Arts Center. This modern dance troupe is celebrating their 60th anniversary a new show “Marathon Cadenzas,” set to The Raymond Scott Quintette’s classic recordings of “The Penguin,” “Oil Gusher,” Minuet in Jazz” and more. Tickets start at $10. 
Blu Seafood and Bar is having a four-course wine dinner on Friday centered around a summer favorite – tomatoes. The menu includes diver scallops, steamed mussels and an heirloom tomato salad. Reservations are $50. 
A crazy pub crawl is coming to Raleigh Friday evening. The Raleigh Yeti Pub Crawl starts at 5:30 p.m. at Tyler's in Raleigh. You'll get a map of participating venues, including the Flying Saucer, Paddy O'Beers and Busy Bee, and set off on an expedition to find the yeti. Maybe he's hiding at the bottom of a Great Divide Brewing Company Imperial Stout?

  • Kiss and Def Leppard play Walnut Creek Amphitheatre on Sunday night. Tickets start at $29.
  • Lauryn Hill brings her neo soul to Red Hat Amphitheater in Raleigh on Sunday. Tickets start at $23. 
  • Historic Stagville hosts music and family fun at the Jubilee Music Festival on Saturday. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy free blues, gospel and jazz music, including a performance by Boo Hanks.
