Raleigh, N.C. — Jury selection began Monday in the trial of one of three men accused of shooting and killing a north Raleigh tobacco store owner more than two years ago.
Steven Marcel Cooley, 22, is charged with first-degree murder in the Dec. 2, 2011, death of Majid Mohram, 39, who was shot in the chest during a robbery at M3 Tobacco on Calvary Drive.
Relatives said that Mohram, of Yemen, had opened the store five months prior to his death. He left behind a wife and two young children.
According to arrest warrants, the alleged robbers took a wallet, cellphone and keys – worth about $300 – from Morham.
The two other suspects – Kwamane Monte Everett, 24, and Demario Quentel Williams, 23, – are still in jail awaiting trial.
