Multiple cars catch on fire, closing parts of I-85 south in Durham

Two lanes of Interstate 85 in Durham were closed on Sunday morning after multiple cars caught on fire on top of a car carrier.

Video sent to WRAL news shows cars engulfed in flames on the side of the interstate.

Officials said that the fire was most likely due to brakes overheating.

The stretch of I-85 south was closed near Exit 175 (NC-157/Guess Road) until 11:30 a.m.

Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire.
