Multi-vehicle crash closes I-40E in Durham

Three people were hurt in a seven-vehicle crash that temporarily closed all lanes of Interstate 40 East at Exit 278 near N.C. Highway 55 in Durham.

DURHAM, N.C. — Three people were hurt in a seven-vehicle crash that temporarily closed all lanes of Interstate 40 East in Durham.

The wreck happened about 9:30 a.m. at Exit 278 near N.C. Highway 55. Details were not available.

Durham police said the three injured people were taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, another crash closed the northbound lanes of Interstate 85 in Granville County, near Butner.

Authorities said the crash happened about 9:20 a.m. at mile marker 191, near N.C. Highway 56. Details were not immediately available.

The road reopened about two hours later.
