<b>WAKE FOREST, N.C.</b> — Several homes in a Wake Forest neighborhood were evacuated Wednesday afternoon because of a gas leak, authorities said.

A spokeswoman with PSNC said someone with a lawnmower hit a small natural gas line at a residence in the 400 block of Seventh Street shortly before 4 p.m.

The system was taken offline for a few hours for repair, and two to three homes were evacuated as a precaution. <br />
