Posted December 2, 2013

— A 21-year-old motorcyclist died and a pedestrian was in critical condition Monday night following a crash on the All American Freeway in Fayetteville, police said.

The female pedestrian walked into the path of the motorcycle, causing the rider, Cody Marcel Soucier, to lose control and crash, police said. Another vehicle then hit Soucier, killing him.

Emergency crews took the pedestrian to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with critical injuries. Officers are trying to identify her. The driver of the vehicle that hit Soucier was not injured.

The crash happened at about 6:21 p.m. between the Yadkin Road Bridge and Santa Fe Drive. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Fayetteville Police Department’s traffic unit at 910-433-1830.

All American is a freeway (and likely very dark) so a pedestrian should not be crossing this highway.

"What a senseless loss of a young life Not that it matters, but, was the pedestrian Jay walking? Was the area to dark to see her. Pray for his family to absorb this untimely death Also for the driver of the vehicle, who will have to live with his(or her) part in this tragedy"

It was a limited access freeway (think like an interstate). It is illegal for pedestrians to be on that road so the ped was most certainly jaywalking.

Somewhat related comment about drivers not seeing something in their lanes at night. Last night I was out on 421 near Campbell College assisting a young couple who had hit a deer. Before we could clear the roadway having 2 vehicles with 4 way flashers on, 4 cars ran over the deer in the roadway.....and not even bothered to stop to see what they hit!! REALLY!!?? People need to be able to be aware of what is in front of their vehicles at night, and if you cannot see something at whatever speed you are driving, slow down, or don't drive at night.
