Motorcyclist killed in Wayne County crash

Posted July 24, 2012

— A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday when he rear-ended a pickup truck on N.C. Highway 55 in Wayne County, according to the state Highway Patrol.

Mike Roger Dawson, 64, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers said Dawson was riding east on the highway, just west of Seven Springs, when the crash happened. No one in the pickup truck was injured.

A cause of the crash has not been determined.

Weather was not a factor, troopers said. It didn't begin raining in Wayne County until after the crash.

To add insult to injury....according to the Goldsboro News-Argus...The p/u driver was identified as Billy Thompson, 58, also of Seven Springs...Also a good man...& career trucker..These two men were good friends...I can only imagine what must be going through Billy's mind...

Another sad thing is...When I rode down to the crash site today, if it had not have been for the HP there investigating, one would never know that one good man died there & a long time friend is suffering along with Mike's family...

    Not a good day here....

I passed this wreck minutes after it happened and before medics arrived and saw the scene. there was a driveway right in front of the scene and his motocycle ended up in that drive. Makes sence that someone pulled in his path. Helmet on and everything. Very windy at the time. Truck was a only a few yards from the accidenmt site. the man lay moitionless on the side of road. Rain had not started at the time but moments later

Very sad and litterly breathtakingly shocking. Our prayers go out to all involved.

If you ride you really need to have a life insurance policy. you never know what is going to happen and lots of times bikers take the most damage in a collision. RIP Mike and peace to his family.

Very sad... I am sure what dwpmgg was saying was, the truck probably turned out on the road because he was not paying good enough attention to what was coming. I ride, I see this everytime I am out.

Don't often here of a Motorcycle rear ending someone. Something else may have been going on.

    Prayers for the family.

I have seen it so many times where pride gets in the way of many drivers, they do not give respect to the Motorcycle drivers. They do not let them in or RIDE THEIR TAIL or Slam on the breaks, I am not to sure in this story but yes ... I am sorry for the loss of life.

Young Motorcycle drivers misuse there rights on the road but a 64 year old man.. I doubt was driving recklessly .. Honestly RebelCat ..

    May EVERY ONE FIND Peace

Very sad story ... very sorry for the family. dwpmgg ??? Mike rear ended the truck so I'm not sure why you are placing blame on the driver of the truck? He has no control as to what happens behind him.

Why do people to LOOK TWICE SAVE A LIFE!!
Or do not let pride get in the way as so many drivers do, let them ride, let them live!
I am sure this man knew what he was doing on a bike, what was the age(s) of the driver in the truck?

May he rest in Peace and may the family and friends hearts be at ease.
