Motorcyclist critically injured in Durham accident

— A motorcyclist was critically injured in a three-vehicle accident Tuesday evening.

Just before 5p.m. Monday, a van driven by Ryan Doherty, 39, of Durham pulled out from a business of the 5200 block of North Roxboro Street and clipped a motorcycle driven by Jordan Appel, 21, of Durham.

The impact knocked the motorcycle onto the far right side of the southbound lane, where it was struck by a Toyota RAV4 driven by Karen Rodenhizer,59, of Durham.

Appel was taken to the hospital for treatment of critical injuries.

No charges have been filed in the case.

    Every day there are fender benders and bump ups, but when one is a motorcycle, this is too often the result. Jordan Appel was just riding along doing nothing wrong, and bam.
