FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A motorcycle rider was critically injured Sunday when she failed to negotiate a turn at an intersection, Fayetteville police said.

Stephanie Jackson, 39, of Power Springs, Ga., was driving her 2007 Kawasaki motorcycle on Dunn Road shortly before noon when she tried to turn right on red at the intersection with Grove Street. Police said she was unable to complete the turn and went across the intersection into oncoming traffic.

Jackson’s motorcycle was hit by a 2008 BMW driven by Walter Benton, 49, of Raeford. She was flown to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, where she remained in critical condition Monday.

Benton was not seriously injured, police said.
