Motorcyclist killed in crash on U.S. 401 near Rolesville

All northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 401, also known as Louisburg Road, were closed Wednesday night following a motorcycle accident.

ROLESVILLE, N.C. — A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday night after a crash on U.S. Highway 401, also known as Lousiburg Road, near Rolesville.

Authorities said that at about 9:10 p.m., a van driven by a 16-year-old was traveling northbound on U.S. 401 and collided with a motorcycle traveling eastbound at the intersection of U.S. 401 and Forestville Road.

The motorcyclist, identified as 26-year-old Braxton Lee Reynolds, of Raleigh, ran a red light and crashed into the driver's side door of the van. Reynolds was pronounced dead at the scene.

The teenager driving the van was treated at WakeMed for minor injuries and released.

Several witnesses on the scene reported that the driver of the motorcycle ran a red light.
