FLORENCE, KY. — The mother of James A. Fields, Jr. or others on her behalf called authorities repeatedly, beginning in 2010, to say they needed help with her sometimes violent son.

Samantha Bloom, who uses a wheelchair, at one point had to lock herself in a bathroom to get away from Mr. Fields, 20. He is accused of ramming his vehicle into a protest crowd in Charlottesville, Va., killed one and injuring others.

In all, there were nine calls made from the home to local law enforcement. Some were logged as domestic violence.

Copies of calls for service were released to The Blade Monday by the public safety department in Florence, Ky., where Mr. Fields grew up and lived with his mother.
