MORGANTON, N.C. — Police charged the mother of a 3-year-old Burke County boy who was found dead on the family's front porch on March 15.
Jamie Lyn Basinger, 23, of Morganton, was charged with felony child abuse and involuntary manslaughter, according to Charlotte television station WCNC. Her son, Landyn Melton, was spotted by a driver on the front porch.
The station reported that investigators woke up Basinger and her boyfriend, who said they were unaware the child was outside.
Melton had celebrated his birthday the day before.
Basinger was jailed under a $100,000 secured bond.
