Mother charged with murder in drowning of 6-week-old Chapel Hill boy
The Horry County Police Department charged a the mother of a Chapel Hill infant with murder after the 6-week-old child drowned in a South Carolina pond on Saturday.
Posted — UpdatedJameisha Ka’Tara Alexander was charged with murder after her son, King Khalil Jair Alexander, died, according to the Horry County, South Carolina police.
Authorities said the child was found in a pond near Tanger Outlets on Highway 501 near Myrtle Beach.
Witnesses said they saw Alexander holding the infant near the pond, according to the charging documents. Security responded and found the baby in the water, but Alexander was not in the area.
Alexander was found after she wrecked her vehicle roughly 2 hours later. The responding officer said in the arrest report that he was advised that Alexander was part of an ongoing investigation.
During the time between the child being found and the car wreck, Alexander made no effort to contact authorities, according to the arrest report.
Family members on Tuesday said Alexander could have been depressed, and the incident was out of character. This was her first child, according to a family member.
