Mother charged with burning 3-year-old with iron

Posted June 23, 2009

— Cumberland County investigators have charged a Fayetteville woman with burning her 3-year-old son with an iron.

Asinia Kenyetta Thomas, 32, of 1608 Fayette Ave., was charged with two counts of felony child abuse inflicting bodily injury and one count each of maiming of limbs and felony neglect.

The boy had a large scar on each leg, as well as what appeared to be older burn scars on his legs, authorities said.

The Cumberland County Department of Social Services began investigating Thomas after the child’s teacher noticed the injuries. The DSS findings were referred to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office as a child neglect case.

Thomas was being held Tuesday in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $100,000 bond.

Detectives said additional charges may be forthcoming.

The case marks the second time in the past month that a Fayetteville mother has been charged after a child was burned with an iron.

Nia Michelle Brooks, 33, of 113-D Vineland Drive, was arrested on May 30 after her 11-year-old daughter was burned on both her arms, the top left thigh and on her right leg near the kneecap.

This woman deserves to be burned the same way as this child. May God be with this child and keep him safe from this animal!

What does it matter to us? If one family conducts itself in this manner it cannot survive for long thus leaving more resources for us. The mother couldn't help it in any event because, as our schools teach, behavior is determined.

Oh she must have thought she was on an episode of Good Times. I'd like to burn her with an iron and see if she likes that. I wonder how many other kids she has or how many more she'll have?

    I can't even imagine this.

Hold her down and do it to her, repeatedly.

Praying for the poor little child - that it is forever removed from this animal's care.

    God bless.

It takes one sick individual to hurt a child, but to burn them. I am at a loss of words. This poor child not only has to live with the physical abuse and scars but the emotional ones as well. Put her in jail it will never be enough but wral will not post what i would love to say.

It isn't PC but while she is in the custody of the state, it should be made certain she never bear children again. This is not at all about race but about abuse.

Nothing she did was right or ever will be but I bet money the same things were done to her when she was growing up........as they say "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree"....she's probably an adult product of her own childhood

give me about 5 minutes with that bee - itch. she wouldn't need a trial, she would need 6 people that gave a rats tail enough about her to carry the coffin... which i doubt you would find.
