Triangle will say temporary farewell to freezing temperatures

Sunday was cold, with the thermometer dipping into the low 20s during the early morning hours, but a warm front moving west means temperatures will rise overnight and freezing weather will be kept at bay for a few days.

"We'll stay above freezing for quite some time, until late this week," said WRAL meteorologist Aimee Wilmoth.

Light rain could fall overnight through Monday morning and the another approaching front keeps the chance of rain in the forecast through midweek. Wilmoth said the Triangle could see isolated showers on Tuesday and a 30 percent chance of rain on Wednesday.

"We're not expecting to get a whole lot of rain, just some really light stuff," she said.

Monday's forecast high temperature is 58 degrees and temperatures will remain in the 50s through Wednesday, before dipping slightly on Thursday.

A cold front that moves in Friday will bring another blast of cold air, with a forecast high of 37 degrees and a forecast low of 22 degrees. The normal high temperature for that date is 53 degrees.

"We will be well below normal all day Friday. It's going to be a really cold day for us," Wilmoth said.

Saturday will also be chilly, with a forecast high temperature of 46 degrees before temperatures climb back into the low 60s on Sunday.
