FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The state Department of Transportation plans to demolish and rebuild the Morganton Road bridge over the All-American Freeway in Fayetteville.

DOT officials said Morganton Road would be closed at the bridge from the end of January until next August.

Three years ago, DOT officials said the bridge would be repaired. But the bridge got another "poor" rating in a state inspection report this year.

The bridge's walls are cracked, and it has had other structural problems for years. Still, DOT officials said the bridge is sturdy and will be fine until the project begins.
