Morehead Planetarium and Science Center has something for families gearing up for a summer family trip.

The Chapel Hill center's Star Families series will focus on survival skills using the sky and how to use it as a compass, clock and calendar. Star Families is designed for kids ages 7 to 12 and their families. It's 3:30 p.m. to 4:15, Saturday, June 14. The cost is $5 per person. Adults must stay with their kids.

Check Morehead's website to register for this program.

On June 27, the center's second Teen Science Fiction Movie Night will feature "Contagion." Scientists will join the audience to talk about the good, bad and sometimes terrible science included in the movies and answer any science questions. It's free and for teens ages 13 to 18.

Get there at 5:30 p.m. for pizza (while it lasts). The movie starts at 6 p.m. It's rated PG-13 so this event is only for ages 13 and up.
