Morehead Planetarium offers new way to celebrate New Year's Eve

Morehead Planetarium in Chapel Hill plans family New Year's Eve event.

Morehead Planetarium and Science Center in Chapel Hill is planning a New Year's Eve event for families.

Night Lights: A Family New Year's Eve is 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Dec. 31. It's designed for all ages and includes activities for families with young children. It's free.

Organizers tell me that the event, presented by Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership, Kidzu Children's Museum, Morehead and smArts creative programs & events, will include a variety of make-n-takes, illuminated dance by Studio A DanceArts and a kids countdown. The crafts include an LED pin craft, wish stars and constellations viewers.

Morehead's schedule includes planetarium shows and Science Live shows on Dec. 31. The last showings are at 2:30 p.m.
