Morehead Planetarium and Science Center in Chapel Hill might be operating on its weekend-only fall schedule, but it also has some special events each month for kids and families.

Here's what's scheduled:

Its Open Minds: Teen Science Cafe begins at 5:30 p.m., Friday. The evening begins with pizza, followed by a talk with Dr. Mike Willis, who is studying changes on the Greenland Ice Sheet in the Russian Arctic. It's all free.
Star Families: Fall Skies is 3:30 p.m., Saturday, for kids ages 7 to 12 and their families. The topic this weekend is fall skies. The cost is $5 per person and you must register ahead for this one.
And, on Sept. 26, Morehead will travel to Little River Regional Park for a skywatching session from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Members of Chapel Hill Astronomical and Observational Society will be on hand with information and telescopes.
