Morehead City police investigating Dunn man's death

Morehead City police are investigating the death of a Dunn man who died Thursday night from injuries he sustained in an altercation outside of Jack's Waterfront Bar.

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. — Morehead City police are investigating the death of a Dunn man who died Thursday night from injuries he sustained in an altercation outside of Jack's Waterfront Bar. 

According to investigators, 23-year-old Steven Ray Johnson died about 11 p.m.

Authorities responded to the restaurant, at 515 Evans St. on the Intracoastal Waterway, after receiving a call about a person being in the water. 

Once authorities determined that a rescue could not be made, Morehead City police and dive team personnel recovered Johnson's body.

No other information about the altercation has been released, and authorities said Friday evening that the investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been made. 

Jack's Waterfront Bar opened in 2008.
