More than 2 dozen Armstrong Elementary School students, staffers go home sick
About 20 students and seven staff members at Armstrong Elementary School in Eastover were absent or went home Friday after experiencing "gastrointestinal" symptoms, officials said.

Shirley Johnson, director of health services at Cumberland County Schools, said administrators sent a letter to parents requesting that staff, parents and children increase their hand-washing and stay at home for at least 24 hours after symptoms ease.
Officials have not pinpointed the illness.
Earlier this month, dozens of students and staffers fell ill at Person County Schools. Testing confirmed that at least two of the cases were norovirus, a highly contagious virus spread through fecal-contaminated food and water. It causes a few days of severe vomiting, diarrhea and stomach cramps.
