What's old could be new again in Cleveland, where the historic Lincoln Building, originally built for parking, may be returned to that purpose in order to free up space in the city's cramped downtown. While Cleveland's parking is actually comparatively plentiful (especially in the eyes of those of us who've ever had to park in downtown San Francisco or Manhattan), it's becoming more challenging. That's going to increase thanks to new development, and developers as well as city officials would like to stay ahead of the crush.
That's why the Lincoln Building's owner has proposed renovating the structure to create more downtown parking. He may face an uphill battle, though: city officials aren't quite convinced that hiring Cleveland remodeling firms to recommit the building to parking is the best, and most aesthetic, use of the space.
