FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Fayetteville man accused of raping a woman at gunpoint Wednesday night now faces weapons charges, police said Friday.

A woman told police that a man kidnapped her from a parking lot in the 200 block of Ramsey Street and forced her to drive to a desolate section of Brinkley Street, where he raped her. She said she was able to escape and call for help after wounding him in the leg during a struggle for his gun.

Latorie Jerriel Crumpler, 32, of Abbottswood Drive, was initially charged with first-degree kidnapping, first-degree rape and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. On Friday, police also charged him with larceny of a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The new charges increased his bond from $100,000 to $140,000. He remained in custody Friday at the Cumberland County jail.
