I know this boy, he just graduated this year. He's not a drunk- he was just driving a moped to avoid the high costs of owning/driving a car. After several hours of surgery on his arm he is going to fully recover. As far as the accident, go drive by the area it happened at 8:45p,m. (on ray road in front of the miniMart near the trailer park at camellia/azalea drive) it is an area brightly lit from the lights of the miniMart and albeit dumb of anyone to wear all black and ride without a headlight the driver of the car should've seen him if paying full attention to driving! Stop driving distracted and watch out for others on the road- not just other cars! A lesson my friend hopefully learns about doing everything you can to be seen as a motorcyclist/biker/jogger because many drivers just don't pay enough attention and think about these guys on the roads. Prayers to him and his family as he heals up.

msha - Do you seriously think drunk moped/scooter riders are more dangerous than drunks driving cars? Really?

OK. I hope, if I'm hit by a drunk, he's on a moped. You can tangle with the 2500 pound SUV's.

Most of the moped drivers have gotten a DWI. They drive the mopeds while they are DWI too and are more dangerous then than when they were driving a car. If you hit them and not charged; your insurance still goes up for 3 years, because they always sue for injuries even if they are hurt and if the insurance pays; you pay. They should not be allowed to drive anything on the roads [Mopeds or bikes].

Hope he fully recovers so he can get back on his moped asap.

We might all be driving a Moped if the gas prices keep going up. :)

I sincerely doubt I will. Just go when necessary. Working...well you have to do what you have to do.

Scooters, moped, bicycles... none need to be on the same road with cars, trucks and 18 wheelers, period.

Another moped driver killed. When is NC going to ruled against mopeds being on our roads and highways? How many have to be killed before something is done. Many that drives these mopeds have no license at all. Something needs to be done.
My condolences to the family and friends.

Seen a guy and his girlfriend riding double puttering on New Bern after lunch. They were doing about 10mph in left lane waving people to go around them. Herd horns and tires skidding.
Only thing that was working for them, Wake Med right there on right side of New Bern.

I love that every time there is a moped story people jump straight on the DWI accusation band wagon. Way to be
