Moore County shooting suspect arrested

Carthage, N.C. — A Carthage man faces charges that he shot and wounded a 28-year-old man during a fight in Moore County Friday night.
Lt. Bill Mackey said that Carlos Terrell McLaughlin injured Patrick Jamar Stubbs during a fight in a home in the Carolina Lakes subdivision, near Bryant Road and U.S. Highway 15-501, east of Carthage, around 9:15 p.m. A friend drove Stubbs away from the home and flagged down a passing sheriff's deputy.
Stubbs, of Southern Pines, was hospitalized and is expected to recover, Mackey said.
McLaughlin, 24, of 262 Heron Road, was arrested Saturday on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
He was placed in the Moore County Detention Center under a $25,000 secured bond. His first court appearance was set for Jan. 4.
McLaughlin was convicted of misdemeanor assault inflicting serious injury in 2007 and served about five weeks in jail when his probation for that charge was revoked, according to state Department of Correction records. He also has convictions for simple assault and disorderly conduct.
