Moore County man accused of dog stealing

— A Cameron man is accused of stealing a dog.

The Moore County Sheriff's Office received a report of a stolen dog on Nov. 3 from a Vass area resident.

On Nov. 6, Timothy Cole, 47, of 310 Hannah Lori Drive, was charged with dog larceny and possession of stolen property.

Cole claims that a former girlfriend abandoned the dog and that he was taking care of it. He plans to make that case during his court appearance on Dec. 10.

    I'm always terrified of stories like this. It seems amusing at first that someone would steal a dog (maybe it was just too cute!). The truth, however, is that people's pets are often stolen and sold to research laboratories. I've learned to keep a close eye on all of my critters!
