Moore County EMS major dies during training exercise

An EMS major from Moore County died Saturday while teaching a search and rescue class.

According to officials, Maj. Tommy McNeill had a "serious medical event" while teaching a wilderness search and rescue class at the Vander Fire Department in Cumberland County.

McNeill was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he passed away.

McNeill was employed with Moore County EMS since September 2009.

In a press release, his peers described McNeill as a dedicated employee, educator, and mentor for over 30 years in the Emergency Services community.
