Moore County accepting applications for vacant school board seats
Posted June 12, 2015
Carthage, N.C. — After a controversy-filled two weeks that included votes to fire and then rehire superintendent Robert Grimesey, the Moore County Board of Education is taking applications to fill three seats vacated by members who have resigned.
Anyone interested in serving on the school board has until 5 p.m. on June 16 to apply online. Appointees would serve on the board until November 2016, when they could choose to run for election.
Board members will review applications when they meet on June 22, and they intend to vote in three new members during their meeting on July 13.
The board voted Thursday to appoint Pam Thompson, who serves on the Board of Trustees at Sandhills Community College, to fill one seat. State law requires that school boards have at least five members.
