CARTHAGE, N.C. — Moore County school officials said an 8th grade female student was hit by a truck Thursday around 4 p.m. while getting off a school bus in Carthage at 3229 U.S. Highway 15-501 in front of Dutton's Small Engine Repairs.

The bus involved was bus 268 from New Century Middle School on Union Church Road, according to the Aberdeen Times.

Authorities said the school bus had its stop sign out and lights activated when a truck with a trailer was unable to stop in time, striking the girl.

The student was responsive and was transported to Moore County Regional Hospital, officials said.

No additional information has been released.
