DURHAM, N.C. — One of our favorite spots to dine in Durham is getting a new home.
The owners of Monuts Donuts announced Monday that they signed a 10-year lease for the old Magnolia Grill location at 1002 Ninth St.

Run by James Beard award winning chefs Ben and Karen Barker, Magnolia Grill closed in 2012 after more than 25 years in business. In January, the empty building caught fire.

Monuts opened its shop on East Parrish Street more than a year go. Before that, they were a hugely successful tricycle-based business that routinely ran out of product at the Durham Farmers Market and various food truck rodeos.

The East Parrish Street location is routinely packed with lines out the door. Owners told the News and Observer that they quickly outgrew the 1,200-square foot space. The new 2,800-square foot location will allow them to add a full bar and expand their coffee selection. They hope to open the new Monuts on Ninth Street in November.

It is still unclear what will happen to the Monuts location on East Parrish Street. Owners aren't sure if it will remain a Monuts or become something else.

Would you like to see two Monuts in the area or should they do something different with the space?
