Monuts Donuts announces new hours

Starting this week, Monuts will be open 7 a.m. - 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Sundays. The restaurant will be closed Mondays.

Monuts has been open at its new location, 1002 Ninth St., for three months. It was previously located on East Parish Street. Monuts began as a tricycle delivery service that was quite popular at local food truck rodeos.

"As you’ve probably witnessed, Monuts has been growing, almost beyond our control, for about three years straight now. Every time we settle into a routine and get the hang of things, we inevitably decide to take the business to the next level.  As wonderful as growth is, it can also be exhausting.  Opening up the new shop in particular, seems to have left its mark a little bit more indelibly than our previous endeavors.  We’re tired and a little bit cranky and we miss our life (and our friends) outside of Monuts," owners Lindsay and Rob Moriarty stated in an email to customers.

"From the beginning, Monuts has been about more than just the bottom line. It’s been about living wages and health insurance and building a better restaurant.  Of course, making money is important, but not at the expense of our employees or our own sanity.  Scaling back our hours, instead of scaling up, gives us a chance to refocus our energy on the things that are most important to us, things that we’ve had to ignore to some extent in order to keep up with growth over these past few years. Staff training, product development, community engagement – these are things that keep us going and ultimately the things that get us excited about our jobs. With our current schedule, there just aren’t enough hours in the day to do everything that needs doing.  So, we’re taking a breather."

Owners said they couldn't even think about scaling back if not from the support of the local community.
